About

I have made (as director/producer/executive producer) documentary programmes for every major UK broadcaster (BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky) as well as Discovery, National Geographic, PBS, WGBH, A & E and Al Jazeera. I directed a hugely successful short feature film, Jerusalem, starring Paul Weller and the Style Council. I have also directed pop videos, adverts and films for international corporates.

A recent documentary I directed has achieved an audience now approaching 300 million. Two films I made for Channel 4 prompted a change in the law to better protect the vulnerable elderly.

I am the lead (or single author) of five books, all with major publishers. My last book was a Sunday Times bestseller.

I have written the libretto for an opera and a comedy, both of which were performed in the professional theatre.

My business experiences include feature film production, book packaging and publishing as well as regional magazines. I have been chairman of a music radio station and a financial information services company serving major quoted companies. I am a founder shareholder and director of three food retail businesses, which have survived covid and are now key drivers in their local communities.

Back in the early 1990s, I was the new media/internet correspondent for the New Statesman magazine, when I was constantly asked why I was writing about something which many believed was obviously going to be a passing fad.

More recently, I worked for the Sunday Times on a major investigation into sports finances.

I am on the advisory boards of two charities, one Jewish, one Muslim, though I am neither.

In the last couple of years, I have become an enthusiastic but very amateur potter and have built my own studio.
